About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise and utilizing appropriate age and population specific standards. The LPN performs testing to evaluate resident status, recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively in emergent situations, ensuring resident health, comfort, and safety. They contribute to resident assessments, administer medications and treatments as ordered, and provide technical support to healthcare professionals. Documentation of resident interactions and outcomes is essential. The position requires strong interpersonal skills for effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public, as well as the ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary care team. Clear communication and maintenance of confidentiality are crucial. The LPN will counsel residents, family members, or advocates on prevention and treatment plans under direction and utilize resident education principles to develop self-care programs. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

Provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care.
Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge.
Utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.
Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed.
Recognizes problems, recommends solutions and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation.
Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents.
Contributes to the assessment of residents.
Administers medications or treatments as ordered.
Provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed.
Documents resident interactions and the outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with resident, health care providers, and the public.
Works effectively with professional and supportive personnel as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
Counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocate, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans.
Applies knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self-care program.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
