About The Position

Under general supervision, the LPN provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of education requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
  • No experience required.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing OR a current multistate LPN License (eNLC) required.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
  • Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
  • Provides care according to an established nursing plan.
  • Observes changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
  • Provides routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement, and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube.
  • Initiates and monitors oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
  • Suctions and cleans tracheotomy sites.
  • May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications.
  • Prepares patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
  • An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
