Private Duty Nursing duties may include administering medical treatments as ordered by the physician, vent cares, suctioning, G-Tube cares, exercise program, and providing personal cares. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient/resident care for stable and predictable patients/residents of all ages in the home care setting. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles for the patient/resident in the relevant setting and possessing the ability to perform testing to assess data reflective of the patient's/resident's status and to interpret appropriately the information needed to identify each patient's/resident's requirements relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed. It also requires demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards as designated in the home care setting. The LPN ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients/residents.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Currently holds an unencundered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.

Nice To Haves

One year of professional nursing experience preferred.
If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
Depending on location, a valid drivers license may be required.

Responsibilities

Administering physician-ordered treatments and medications
Providing respiratory support, including ventilator care and suctioning
G-tube feeding and care
Assisting with personal care and daily living activities
Supporting individualized therapy and exercise programs
Taking clients to school
Participate in the implementation and evaluation of patient/resident care for stable and predictable patients/residents of all ages in the home care setting.
Perform testing to assess data reflective of the patient's/resident's status and to interpret appropriately the information needed to identify each patient's/resident's requirements relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Utilize appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in the home care setting.
Ensure the health, comfort and safety of patients/residents.
Administer a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
Document and maintain records.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients/residents, health care providers, and the public.
Recognize problems and recommend solutions.
Interpret, adapt, and follow guidelines and procedures.
Communicate clearly.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Counsel patients/residents and family members, under the direction of a registered nurse, on prevention and treatment plans.
