About The Position

We are looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged and excited for growth individuals to join our team in the 38 bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day that present with various acuities. We are a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility that is able to intervene and administer thrombolytics. We have two helicopter pads on campus for utilization. We have 5 PODs in our department, depending on acuity, is where the patient will be assigned: Behavioral Health Pod. We have Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians and Unit Secretaries who work in close collaboration with the ED Providers to provide exceptional care. All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an LPN program
  • Current License in the State of Georgia as a LPN or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
  • BLS certification required
  • PALS/ACLS required ideally before start date or within 90 days of start
  • Experienced Emergency Department nurses will have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification
  • All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Dept experience highly preferred or Urgent Care/Hospital exp
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the specialty area applying for preferred
  • Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting Preferred
  • If working in the Emergency Department, ALS/ACLS and PALS required
  • PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • PEARS or PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days Required
  • Surgical Services: Additional Required Certifications: PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) OR – BLS required only within 180 Days Required
  • Women’s Services: Additional Required Certifications: Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date Mother/Baby- NRP by the end of orientation period NICU- NRP by the end of orientation period NAT (Newborn Admission Team)- NRP by the end of orientation period Nursery- NRP by the end of orientation period within 180 Days Required

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments as designated by Registered Nurse or provider to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial and health history.
  • Appropriately evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments and patient/family education.
  • In collaboration with Registered Nurse or provider, organizes patient data into the formulation of a plan of care; identifies additional information needed and makes care decisions based on identified needs. Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.
  • Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients.
  • Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.
