About The Position

The apprenticeship program is a collaboration with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College school of Nursing. The apprentice will attend classes at the MGCCC Tradition campus two (2) days a week. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) apprentice provides nursing care under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), advanced registered nurse (APRN), or licensed physician which does not require the specialized skill, judgment and knowledge of a registered nurse. The LPN apprentice care is in compliance with Singing River Health System policies and procedures to assess residents’ care needs and take appropriate action; includes recording vital signs, discussing chief health concerns, performing testing, and administering injections; assists with procedures and documentation. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Singing River Health System Apprenticeship course at MGCCC.
  • High School or equivalent Diploma required.
  • Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical healthcare experience preferred.
  • May also require ACLS, TNCC and PALS pending of assignment of clinical training.
