About The Position

Town School for Boys is seeking a full-time Lower School STEM Teacher to work with students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. This is a family leave position with specific dates of employment. The ideal candidate would promote critical thinking and problem-solving through daily activities and project-based learning. Students at Town learn science via hands-on inquiry using frameworks from institutions such as the Exploratorium’s Inquiry Institute. Subject matter is integrated across disciplines and is grounded in the Next Generation Science Standards. In recent years, there has been greater emphasis on engineering, coding, and robotics, alongside core scientific understanding. Our Lower School STEM teachers are also technology integration leaders and, as such, are integral to our efforts to use age-appropriate applications and tools to advance student learning.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of science.
• Passion for engineering, coding, and robotics.
• At least 2 years of teaching experience.
• Early childhood education experience.
• Strong use of technology tools for teaching.

Responsibilities

• Promote critical thinking and problem-solving through daily activities and project-based learning.
• Participate in weekly faculty and department meetings.
• Fulfill weekly lunch and recess duty obligations.
• Take an active role in the school by contributing to committees, chaperoning field trips, and attending student performances and athletic events.
• Integrate technology tools to advance student learning.
• Collaborate with other head science teachers, head teachers in grades K-2, the Engineering Program Lead, the Director of Educational Technology, the Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, and the Head of Lower School.
