About The Position

Town School for Boys, an independent K-8 all-boys school in San Francisco with approximately 415 students, is seeking a full-time Lower School Library Teacher for a leave position from May 4 to June 3, 2026. This role involves maintaining library operations and providing K–2 instruction, working closely with the Director of Library Services to ensure a smooth end-of-year experience. The position also includes weekly faculty meetings, lunch, and recess duty obligations. The school encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, even if they don't meet every qualification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience teaching grades K–2 with strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to learn and use Follett Destiny library database software.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Slides, Docs, and Sheets) and basic AV/computer setups.
  • Skill in engaging with the public and providing a welcoming, helpful presence to students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to engage in light physical activity, including lifting, pushing book carts, and shelving books on low and high shelves.
  • Attention to detail regarding alphabetical and categorical shelving systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead K–2 library classes using provided lesson plans and slide decks.
  • Supervise 5th–8th grade recess.
  • Supervise 7:30 AM Morning Care for 1st - 8th grades.
  • Supervise 3:00 - 3:30 Extended Day Coverage for 1st - 4th grades.
  • Manage the library space to ensure consistent student supervision and operational continuity.
  • Manage book check-ins/outs and student holds using Follett Destiny.
  • Assist patrons with account and catalog inquiries.
  • Help students and staff locate materials and use library resources.
  • Clear return bins, sort materials, perform shelf reads, and accurately reshelve items to maintain organization.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming library space.
  • Assist with collecting outstanding materials and completing closing inventory tasks.
  • Perform additional library duties as needed to support daily operations.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings.
  • Perform lunch duty obligations.
  • Perform recess duty obligations.
