About The Position

The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. Known for its child-centered approach and an exceptional, inspiring faculty, Dalton enrolls over 1,300 students with approximately 350 faculty and staff. Guided by the Dalton Plan, the foundation of a Dalton education, our faculty meets each student’s evolving needs, interests, and abilities. Dalton challenges each student to develop intellectual independence, creativity, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility toward others both within the School and in the broader community. We are seeking a full-time Elementary (Third Grade) Spanish teacher starting September 2026. Spanish at Dalton is taught through the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational), with attention to the cultural products, practices, and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world. We are committed to ongoing curricular and pedagogical anti-racist work, and we seek a candidate who shares that commitment and who can contribute to our efforts. Our ideal candidate has K-5 language teaching experience and native-like proficiency in Spanish. Language teaching/methodology training and understanding of ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines is a plus.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of three years relevant teaching experience; elementary teaching strongly preferred
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices, with respect to pedagogy, curriculum, and community engagement
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Facility with relevant educational technologies
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without needing sponsorship.
