About The Position

Oakwood School is seeking a Recreation Leader & Student Support to assist the daily needs of the Lower School. This role involves student supervision, classroom academic support, and after-school recreation. The position collaborates with teachers and administration to ensure a safe, positive, and supportive environment for students. During the academic day, the Recreation Leader & Student Support will aid classroom teachers with small-group instruction, focusing on Language Arts and reading support, all under the guidance of the core classroom teacher, principal, and curriculum coordinator. The role also includes supervising students during recess, lunch, and other non-classroom times, and transitioning into the After-School Program to lead recreational and enrichment activities. The hours for this position are 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, year-round, with an immediate opening.

  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to escort students to different classes, to recess and to field trips, etc.
  • Ability to perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
  • Ability to work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of different environments with varying levels of noise, temperature, physical space, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with schoolwork and recreation activities
  • Coordinate the creation, planning and maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment
  • Maintain consistent supervision and active involvement with children inside and outside
  • Plan and implement appropriate, engaging activities
  • Maintain a warm, caring and non-judgmental attitude towards children and their families
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and materials in a neat, organized fashion
  • Fulfill campus responsibilities including lunch duty, crosswalk duty, or other duties as assigned

  • Support and follow school policies and procedures
  • Participate in Admission events, including Open House, New Student Orientation, and applicant interviews
  • Attend various staff meetings, Back-to-School Nights, commencement ceremony, and other events as directed
  • Classroom coverage as needed
