As a Lower School Physical Education Teacher at The Rhoades School, you will design and deliver an engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education program for gifted and enthusiastic students in kindergarten through third grade. You will help students build physical literacy, confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits in a supportive environment that encourages exploration and growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Education, or a related field
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate physical education practices, sports fundamentals, student safety, and classroom or group management
  • Positive and effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage gifted and intellectually curious learners
  • Ability to successfully pass state and federal background checks

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching elementary physical education is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and implement a physical education curriculum aligned with school standards and the developmental needs of students in grades K–3
  • Lead students in age-appropriate physical education activities that promote movement, coordination, strength, endurance, and overall physical fitness
  • Teach and demonstrate foundational skills, rules, strategies, and safe practices for individual and team sports, games, rhythms, and body movement
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that develops students’ social skills, teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship
  • Differentiate instruction to support a range of physical abilities, learning needs, and readiness levels
  • Select, organize, store, distribute, and inventory physical education equipment, materials, and supplies as needed
  • Assist with student supervision during recess, playground activities, transitions, and other assigned school responsibilities
  • Collaborate with faculty and communicate effectively with families to support student development and a positive school experience
