About The Position

Second Baptist School is currently seeking a full-time LIBRARIAN for Lower School. This role creates a welcoming and engaging environment where students develop foundational library skills, explore literature and grow as curious learners. The librarian partners closely with teachers and administrators to support curriculum goals while cultivating a lifelong love of reading in alignment with the mission of Second Baptist School. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head of Lower School.

Requirements

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff

  • Meet professional education requirements of Second Baptist School
  • Create an engaging, age-appropriate environment that supports early learners
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
  • A minimum of two years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, elementary librarian or related educational role
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students and promoting literacy development
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with faculty, students and families
  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to students
  • A heart to provide exceptional customer service to all members of the community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in technology and strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • A desire to support school-wide initiatives and foster a culture of reading and learning

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • State certification in teaching, library science or related field preferred
  • Prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School is considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Lower School library
  • Evaluate, select and order books, instructional materials and digital resources appropriate for lower school students
  • Maintain an efficient system for cataloging, circulation and retrieval of library materials
  • Maintain accurate records of library holdings and conduct inventory as needed
  • Weed outdated materials from the collection as appropriate
  • Train and supervise parent volunteers assisting in the library
  • Maintain a welcoming, organized and engaging library environment for young learners
  • Schedule classes and library usage to maximize accessibility for students and teachers
  • Assist the Office of Admissions with tours by sharing information about the library program and resources
  • Teach age-appropriate library lessons to lower school students
  • Introduce students to library procedures, book care and foundational research skills
  • Foster a love of reading through engaging library lessons, story time and age-appropriate literary experiences
  • Collaborate, plan and execute reading initiatives, author studies/visits, book fairs and other special literacy events that promote student engagement with reading
  • Help students select books that match their reading levels and interests
  • Encourage curiosity, creativity and independent learning through literature and library experiences
  • Support classroom reading initiatives and school-wide literacy programs
  • Partner with classroom teachers to support curriculum goals through library resources and literature connections
  • Collaborate with middle and upper school librarians to maintain a cohesive school library program
  • Support faculty with instructional resources and classroom needs
  • Communicate library resources, programs and initiatives to students, parents and staff
