Low Voltage Technician – Data Center Construction

About The Position

LINX is hiring Low Voltage Technicians to build out structured cabling infrastructure on active data center construction projects. This is new-build construction work involving running and terminating cable, building out MDF/IDF closets, and testing every run before it's signed off. Technicians will be part of a crew standing up a data center's cabling infrastructure from the ground up. There is a defined career path from Technician I through Technician III and beyond.

Requirements

  • Able to work on ladders and use power tools
  • Able to lift, carry, and set up a 50 pound box or ladder
  • Must own a complete set of personal low voltage hand tools (snips, strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches)
  • Available to work 2nd or 3rd shift, overtime, and under deadline pressure
  • Must pass a 7 year criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and physical
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
  • Professional working proficiency in English, written and verbal
  • 1+ year of commercial low voltage installation experience (for Tech II)
  • Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and work a 90-degree bend proficiently with limited supervision (for Tech II)
  • Can install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling systems proficiently, including with Fluke DSX-600/8000 cable certifiers (for Tech II)
  • Able to build out MDF and IDF closets — racks, patch panels, wire management, network hardware — with supervision (for Tech II)
  • 2+ years of commercial low voltage installation experience (for Tech III)
  • Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and work a 90-degree bend proficiently with no supervision (for Tech III)
  • Can install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling systems with no supervision (for Tech III)
  • Able to build out MDF and IDF closets with no supervision (for Tech III)

Nice To Haves

  • ES-3J Low Voltage Journeyman License
  • Commercial construction experience
  • BICSI Technician or Installer certification, Copper or Optical Fiber
  • Powder Actuated Tools Certification
  • Confined Space Certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Manufacturer certifications for installation and maintenance (Fluke, Fujikura, Sumitomo, Corning, Hilti)
  • High school diploma

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems for CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cable
  • Pull, suspend, fireproof, terminate, and test cable runs to BICSI standards, NEC, and local code
  • Build, install, and maintain MDFs and IDFs, including racks, patch panels, wire management systems, and network hardware
  • Troubleshoot low voltage cable systems as issues come up on site
  • Document every installation for compliance with industry standards and project specifications
  • Deliver organized, professional workmanship that meets spec on every run
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with site contacts to resolve technical issues
