About The Position

The Louisville Livestock Driver is responsible for transporting livestock, adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. This role requires the ability to handle various shifts, perform physical tasks related to loading and unloading, and possess strong driving and navigation skills. The driver will operate a semi-tractor with a 53ft trailer and must be adaptable to changing conditions.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • 1-year semi-tractor and 53ft trailer driving experience
  • Experience in loading and unloading cargo
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively
  • Ability to work various shifts and days of the week (Sunday-Thursday 6pm to 6am, Monday-Friday 12pm to 12am, Weekends as needed)
  • Ability to sit upright for an extended period of time
  • Ability to hear and differentiate sounds
  • Ability to review and understand maps and special instructions
  • Ability to work in wet, damp, or dry areas and/or those requiring exposure to varying temperatures
  • Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Knowledge of pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations

Responsibilities

  • Drive a semi-tractor and 53ft trailer to transport livestock.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Load and unload cargo, including livestock.
  • Secure loads properly.
  • Record DOT hours.
  • Plan routes and adapt to changes in weather, traffic, and routes.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and other relevant parties.
  • Manage time efficiently to meet delivery schedules.
  • Maintain alertness and quick thinking in dynamic situations.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
  • Reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, including wet, damp, dry areas, and varying temperatures.
  • Sit upright for extended periods.
  • Hear and differentiate sounds.
  • Review and understand maps and special instructions.
