About The Position

Direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the Loss Prevention and/or Safety programs and activities within the assigned department or division; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to higher level supervisory or management staff. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in risk management or safety engineering
  • Six (6) years of professional experience in loss prevention, risk management, or safety management
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced certification in Risk Management or Safety, e.g. Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, coordinate and review the work plan for assigned staff; assign work activities, projects and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels.
  • Define safety objectives for the assigned loss prevention program; establish safety standards and criteria; develop safe working practices for all employees.
  • Oversee and participate in periodic safety inspections, safety audits and testing services of facilities, equipment, vehicles, noise levels, toxic atmospheres and unsafe conditions.
  • Provide support to the Light Duty/Return-to-Work Coordinator with identifying light duty assignments using job descriptions, ADA requirements, department needs and other factors.
  • May be required to qualify, select and monitor the performance of the Driver Safety Trainers; act as liaison with MVD and coordinate access to MVD data by various City departments.
  • Consult with department or division managers to identify and mitigate hazardous situations and conditions; develop trend analysis of departmental losses as requested.
  • Administer a variety outside services and contracts as they relate to the functions of the Loss Prevention Section.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the division's annual budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, training, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.
  • Serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
  • Provide responsible staff assistance to higher level supervisory or management staff.
  • Conduct a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to assigned programs, policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Coordinate Department Medical program; inspection and maintenance of airport Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) machines, first aid and trauma kits.
  • Serve as point of contact for all random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of safety, risk management and loss prevention.
  • Perform OHSA training or related duties and responsibilities as required.
