About The Position

The Longhole Supervisor will report to the Longhole Superintendent and is responsible for direct supervision of the Longhole crews including managing, planning, and reporting on drilling, loading, and blasting of all production stopes. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.

Requirements

  • Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
  • Degree in Mine Engineering with 5 years of underground experience, inclusive of longhole design.
  • Solid background in longhole drilling and blasting practices.
  • Well-developed decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience designing and scheduling in Deswik.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain positive attitude.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated success working safely, independently, assuming responsibility, and communicating effectively and professionally.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.
  • Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs, stand and walk for upwards of 8 hours a day, and climb hundreds of feet of escapeways in a reasonable amount of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Sandvik Longhole drills.
  • Experience or familiarity with automation of Longhole drills.
  • Preference given to Alaska residents.

Responsibilities

  • Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with the Development Supervisors and Mine Superintendents to coordinate activities and readiness of Longhole drilling locations.
  • Track daily drill footages, ensures productivity and quality of drilling.
  • Assess drill condition and work with Maintenance to coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspect and map completed drill holes and develop stope blasting plans.
  • Identify and implement “best practices” for longhole stoping at Coeur Alaska Kensington.
  • Encourage and foster a positive and productive team environment.
  • Comply with and coach employees on Coeur’s safety, environmental, and conduct standards.
  • Ensure proper utilization of longhole drills to optimize safe and efficient production.
  • Ensure that performance expectations and proficiency standards are met consistently.
  • Perform hourly evaluations with assistance from Longhole Superintendent.
  • Ensure longhole crews receive training and progression pathways fairly and consistently.
  • Work collaboratively with all Supervisors and crews to ensure that equipment and tasks are properly set-up for the next shift.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, employees and other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal mining regulations, as well as Federal and State environmental standards.
  • Provide consistency in the application of Company policies, procedures, and training to ensure the safest work environment for employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
