About The Position

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
  • Certificate by the Rhode Island State Department of Education.
  • Current Rhode Island Teacher Certificates in the appropriate subject area and level required if assignment is 45 days or more, preferred for assignments less than 45 days (must meet minimum substitute requirements for assignment under 45 days)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, test data, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Ability to utilize current technology for communication, data analysis, and access to research and instruction.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school committee policies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Google Suite, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, Web applications, and industry-specific technology.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of a comprehensive social studies program
  • Understands and applies effective strategies and best practices to ensure student success
  • Participates in district and school-based professional development activities
  • Collaborates with school personnel and/or parents to coordinate the delivery of service to students
  • Administers a variety of student assessment tools
  • Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications with parents, colleagues and community
  • Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the district and state laws
  • Assists school personnel in assessing instructional materials and equipment needed for the arts program
  • Provides leadership for instructionally-based students activities and events
  • Assists with the coordination of social studies programs for the enrichment of all students
  • Adheres to the Rhode Island Educator Code of Professional Responsibility
  • Works collaboratively with peers at the school and district level to improve teaching, learning and educational programming for students
  • Performs other duties as designated by the building administrator
