About The Position

This is a temporary long-term substitute assignment for a School Counselor at East Hartford High School, covering the 2026-2027 school year, approximately from November 18, 2026, to December 23, 2026. The role involves providing counseling and guidance services to assist students in assessing their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and values. The position requires a Master's degree and Connecticut State certification in School Counseling (068). The salary will be based on the daily Long-Term Substitute rate.

Requirements

• State of Connecticut certification in School Counseling (068).
• Master's degree required.
• Knowledge of scheduling and programming.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, administrators and other professionals.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Nice To Haves

• Successful experience as a teacher preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of the theory and practice of the discipline.
• Assesses student needs and progress.
• Prepares individual student schedules, including volunteer/internship schedules.
• Works with administrators and staff in compiling staff/student schedule requests.
• Works cooperatively with other administrative personnel in preparing, developing, and implementing master schedule.
• Plans programs and interventions to achieve established objectives.
• Implements programs and interventions to achieve established goals.
• Helps students develop positive self-concepts.
• Counsels students and/or groups related to academic goals.
• Counsels students and/or groups related to behavioral goals.
• Facilitates the development of student independence.
• Meets the needs of exceptional students.
• Writes grant applications for program development.
• Provides data for grant evaluations as requested.
• Supervises students and/or groups in transitional activities.
• Plans, implements, and assesses soft skill/transitional lessons for students/groups.
• Visits job sites and provides support when appropriate.
• Counsels students and/or groups related to work/volunteer experiences.
• Communicates with students, family members, school personnel and members of the community.
• Establishes and expands community partnerships and family/school connections.
• Promotes a positive learning environment.
• Facilitates the cooperative involvement of parents and community in the educational process.
• Organizes time, space, materials and equipment.
• Cooperates in the ongoing studies of curriculum and school building needs and participates in the educational planning of school facilities.
• Participates in professional activities such as workshops, conferences, parent/teacher meetings and activities of other pertinent professional organizations.
• Meets professional responsibilities.
• Collects, interprets and analyzes workplace/internship work readiness data.
• Reports student data as directed by administrator(s).
• Performs such record-keeping functions as the Principal(s) may direct.
• Creates presentations as requested by Principal or supervisor.
• Assumes such other functions as may be determined.
