About The Position

Moravian Academy's Swain Campus is seeking a dynamic and rewarding Long-Term Substitute Middle School Humanities teacher from August 14 through mid-October 2026. This role involves teaching multiple sections of ELA and History for students in grades 6-8, serving as a student advisor, and contributing fully to the middle school community. The ideal candidate will possess content knowledge in English Language Arts and Social Studies, a genuine feel for early adolescence, and the ability to build strong relationships quickly and authentically. Moravian Academy views middle school as a significant destination in itself, and this is a serious role for dedicated educators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, History, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and genuine enthusiasm for teaching middle school-aged students.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and middle school pedagogy.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students across the developmental spectrum of early adolescence.
  • Skill in building trust-based relationships quickly with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Successful completion of required Pennsylvania background clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114) prior to start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Background in an independent school or college-preparatory setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education preferred.
