About The Position

Bishop McNamara High School has an opening to join the Mathematics department as a long-term substitute teacher, from August 2026 to January 2027, teaching Precalculus and Statistics. You will be supported by a collaborative and experienced team of educators. We are a team committed to helping students speak the universal language of mathematics. Our courses reflect the wide and exciting variety of students we attract. Because mathematics is about more than numbers and formulas, we challenge our students every day to not only solve abstract problems, but also apply their skills to real situations. Through daily tutoring by our team, with support from Mu Alpha Theta honors society students, we offer individualized assistance and inspire keen interest, scholarship, and enjoyment in mathematics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science, mathematics, engineering, education, or related fields
  • Commitment to development of the whole student, including well-being and character, in alignment with the Holy Cross tradition of education

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching in a high school, with demonstrated expertise in differentiated instruction

Responsibilities

  • Developing lesson plans in the relevant subject area and grade, and ensuring all lessons align with curriculum objectives.
  • Drawing up classroom procedures and safety regulations and ensuring all students understand them.
  • Using a range of teaching materials and methods to advance student learning.
  • Providing additional support and interventions for students as needed, based on their readiness and learning profile.
  • Preparing students for tests, exams, presentations, experiments, and other assessments.
  • Grading assessments and providing feedback and reports to students and parents.
  • Attending staff and parent meetings to provide helpful recommendations or voice concerns.
  • Establishing rapport and professional relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Supervising students in class, during events, and on field trips.
  • Monitoring students’ overall wellbeing and liaising with school counselors and other staff members when there are concerns or issues.
  • Attending ongoing learning initiatives like workshops, lectures, conferences, and other events where you are able to expand education networks.
