Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or higher in K-12 music education from an accredited institution
  • State certification with K-12 vocal music authorization
  • Exhibit the core values of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools: Faith, Unity, Excellence, and Integrity
  • Piano proficiency and/or other instruments preferred
  • General understanding of Catholic liturgy of the Mass
  • Knowledge of relevant technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills
  • Self-motivated with high energy

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools
  • Model in word and action the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans that adhere to system curriculum maps
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  • Observe, monitor and evaluate student’s progress and performance
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, assignments and enter grades on line
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback on work
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Provide student supervision and discipline
  • Uphold professionalism and confidentiality
  • Conducts rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music.
  • Provide music ministry at Mass, as assigned by school
  • Work to produce performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance
  • Christmas Concert and/or Spring Concert as assigned by school
  • Provide opportunities to participate in school, local and regional competitions, contests and events
  • Direct the liturgical choir, including rehearsals and performances, as assigned by school
  • Selects and places purchase orders for required music, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Member of the South Dakota Music Education Association (SDMEA)
