About The Position

Purpose Built Schools, in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), operates three neighborhood schools in South Atlanta: Slater Elementary School (PreK-5), Price Middle School (6-8), and Carver STEAM Academy (9-12). As a network of partner schools, we have the flexibility and autonomy similar to charter schools, but remain true neighborhood schools that serve every student in our attendance zone.   • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate or Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or current enrollment in a teacher preparation program preferred
  • Candidates actively pursuing Georgia teacher certification strongly preferred
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, childcare, youth development, or community-based setting preferred
  • Previous substitute teaching, paraprofessional, tutoring, or classroom support experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in urban educational settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction and academic support in the absence of the assigned classroom teacher to ensure continuity of student learning.
  • Implement lesson plans, instructional activities, and classroom procedures as directed by the teacher or school administration.
  • Adapt to changing instructional assignments and school needs, including supporting multiple grade levels, subject areas, and small-group interventions.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, engaging, and conducive to learning.
  • Establish and reinforce reasonable expectations for student behavior that promote self-discipline, responsibility, and positive relationships.
  • Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Differentiate support as needed to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Utilize PBSA-approved instructional practices and follow school procedures to maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Report to the assigned school each day prepared to fulfill instructional and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Remain on campus for the duration of the assigned workday unless otherwise directed by the principal or designee.
  • Support schoolwide operations by providing classroom coverage, intervention support, testing assistance, and other instructional duties as needed.
  • Follow all PBSA and APS policies, procedures, and expectations related to student supervision, safety, confidentiality, and mandatory reporting.
  • Take appropriate precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and school facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate relevant information to teachers and school leaders regarding classroom activities and student needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families to support student success.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and a solutions-oriented mindset in response to changing school priorities and assignments.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school operations in accordance with FERPA and district policies.

  • Demonstrate a deep belief in the potential of every student and a commitment to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments.
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional learning opportunities.
