About The Position

Lighthouse Community Public Schools (LCPS) is seeking a talented Education Specialist (Mild-Moderate) long-term substitute for the 26-27 school year. LCPS is an educational movement focused on disrupting inequities and providing exceptional educational opportunities. They operate two high-achieving TK-12 public charter schools in East Oakland, serving over 1,600 students with a mission to prepare diverse students for college, careers, and to be lifelong changemakers. The ideal candidate will be an anti-racist educator committed to educational justice, student-centered learning, data analysis, and fostering a growth mindset.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S.
  • Appropriate California Teaching Credential or commitment and verified ability to acquire one (must supply unofficial transcripts to verify eligibility if do not have a valid license in CA or another state or country).
  • Valid Certificate of Clearance verifying professional fitness for all CA teachers of record (if have never held a COC must obtain one before can be fully hired and cleared to start).
  • Knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, student-centered, mastery-based learning, curriculum planning, and data analysis.
  • 2+ years teaching urban youth with transformational results.
  • Familiarity navigating educational platforms.
  • Experience teaching in a progressive school model.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of rigor for students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to common core state standards and/or alternate curriculum standards.
  • Ensure students are at the center of their own learning and deeply engaged in ways that foster agency, self-direction, and independence.
  • Regularly collaborate with other specialists, including outside providers, and general education teachers for IEP implementation, co-planning, and co-teaching.
  • Oversee, teach, and implement a student’s behavior intervention plan, including gathering and analyzing relevant data.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its influences on the special education program.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and ensure IEPs are designed for educational benefit.
  • Create and maintain notifications, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state, and SELPA regulations.
  • Provide daily oversight of paraprofessional support, including staff schedules and IEP service implementation.
  • Communicate with caregivers on a frequent basis regarding their child’s progress and educational planning.
  • Administer standardized academic assessments, write reports, and share information at IEP meetings.
  • Utilize, collect, and analyze rigorous, student-engaged assessments (formative and summative) to identify and address students’ areas of growth and mastery.
  • Grow and contribute as an educator, colleague, learner, and community member, including engaging in professional development.
  • If teaching high school, coordinate the development and implementation of a student’s Individualized Transition Plan.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
