About The Position

West Michigan Aviation Academy is currently seeking a Long Term English Substitute Teacher. Long Term Substitute dates: August 10, 2026 - November 13, 2026. Must have teacher certification and endorsement. WMAA is an innovative, academically rigorous charter high school with a focus on hands-on aviation and STEM education. WMAA places intense emphasis on real-life, hands-on projects that incorporate multidisciplinary learning, design thinking, and many more business-level skill sets. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Long Term English Substitute Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong command of the English language, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to fostering a love for reading and writing among students.

Requirements

  • 60+ college credits required
  • Valid teaching certification, or eligibility to obtain a permit
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and commitments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field preferred
  • Previous teaching or substitute teaching experience in English is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and manage classroom activities in accordance with the school’s curriculum and policies
  • Provide instruction in reading, writing, literature, and language arts while adapting approaches to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Collaborate with other educators and staff to support school-wide initiatives and events
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
