About The Position

This internship position at Lone Pine State Park requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in college or university and remain enrolled for the duration of the internship. The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions such as temperature extremes, snow, rain, dust, and areas with insects. The intern will interact with the public, assist with park operations, and potentially undertake various projects. Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a college/university.
  • Must remain enrolled through the duration of the internship.
  • Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions including temperature extremes, snow and rain, dust, and mosquito infested areas.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • May be required to lift over 25lbs across rugged terrain.
  • May require some travel.
  • Required to work variable hours, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting visitors at the Lone Pine Visitor Center.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of interpretive and educational programs to students, groups, and visitors.
  • Leading hikes.
  • Assisting with school field trip activities.
  • Gift shop retail sales.
  • Light building, grounds, and trail maintenance.
  • Janitorial duties.
  • Performing volunteer recruitment and community outreach with AmeriCorps staff.
  • Assisting Park Managers to develop a vegetation management plan and forest inventory for all Region 1 state parks.
  • Informing the public of site rules and regulations.
