About The Position

The Loma Writing Center Assistant will play a central role in supporting the daily operations of PLNU’s writing support programs. Reporting to the Writing Center Director, the Assistant will work closely with the student leadership team, tutors, and the Director of PLNU’s General Education program to ensure smooth, efficient operations. The Assistant will manage scheduling and WCOnline, help manage student staff, coordinate writing center communication, support outreach and assessment efforts, and perform other duties as assigned. This is a 12-month, part-time, in-person position on the Point Loma campus of Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA.

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive interpersonal and intercultural relationships
  • Experience with scheduling systems, reporting tools, or educational support software platforms

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational, administrative, and logistical support to the Loma Writing Center Director
  • Support the daily operations and workflow of the Writing Center
  • Review, approve, and manage graduate and undergraduate student tutor timecards and scheduling compliance
  • Monitor and track time-off requests, attendance, and scheduling adjustments
  • Monitor consultation reports and support timely completion and submission processes
  • Coordinate tutor scheduling across fall, spring, and summer terms
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and administrative support for student tutors in partnership with Student Employment
  • Maintain administrative systems, databases, scheduling platforms, and internal communication tools including WCOnline and Writing Center email communications
  • Track budgets, process purchases, and support procurement and financial workflows
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, training sessions, workshops, and Writing Center events
  • Maintain Writing Center facilities, supplies, records, and operational documentation
  • Collect, organize, and analyze appointment, usage, and feedback data to support assessment and continuous improvement efforts
  • Contribute to annual reporting and program assessment activities
  • Support outreach and promotional efforts through communication campaigns, marketing materials, and campus engagement initiatives
  • Order and manage promotional and branded materials as needed
  • Participate in Writing Center leadership meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned in support of Writing Center operations
