About The Position

The Warehouse Technician will be required to safely operate a forklift or other powered material handling equipment (MHE) to move, and stack finished goods or packaging material within the plant-attached distribution center. They are accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the forklift and may be required to perform duties as an order selector, unloader, or loader. This role is at Smucker's new greenfield McCalla, AL facility, which will produce Uncrustables sandwiches and develop new products. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be able to drive a stand-up forklift
  • Must obtain a forklift driver’s license by demonstrating safe operations of the forklift.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Must understand and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Must understand and follow all Job Safety Analysis and Safe Practices.
  • Must understand and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Must understand and follow all Food Safety and BRC guidelines.
  • Must be able to read, count accurately, & do simple math.
  • Must be able to use a computer and input data required for production.
  • Must be able to give and receive feedback.
  • Ability to maintain open lines of communication and contact between operations and support functions.
  • Ability to perform critical thinking skills to problem solve & resolve conflicts.
  • Employee is required to have a minimum of 20/40 vision in each eye with or without corrective lenses.
  • The applicant must pass a standard eye exam.
  • Employee must have the ability to perform the essential job functions identified above consistent with safety standards and practices with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 Years stand-up forklift experience preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Willingness to travel for various training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a forklift or other powered material handling equipment (MHE) to move, and stack finished goods or packaging material.
  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections of power equipment and record the inspection.
  • Keep forklift area clean and operate the charging station for the battery.
  • Review, understand and follow operator responsibilities of all JSA’s, SOP’s, and Safe Practices.
  • Adhere to all OSHA standards.
  • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Load, unload, stack, and stage product and materials using a forklift or other power equipment.
  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
  • Efficiently stack and store merchandise in the appropriate areas.
  • Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring accuracy.
  • Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variances.
  • Utilize warehouse management system (WMS) to maintain accurate inventory, including RF capabilities for all warehouse operations (order selection, moves, receiving, loading, cycle counting).
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse.
  • Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety.
  • Comply with OSHA and other applicable standards.
  • Support and abide by the company’s safety program and all safety initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Report issues and problems to supervisors.
  • Report maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Immediately clean warehouse of all loose debris from the floor and traveling area.
  • Communicate with both oncoming and departing shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
