About The Position

The Logistics Advisor is a strategic supply chain leader responsible for the planning, execution, and optimization of multimodal transportation networks, with a focus on rail and ocean freight. This role drives cost efficiency, carrier performance, and service excellence while managing an annual logistics spend of $50M–$150M. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in freight markets, contract negotiation, and end-to-end logistics operations across domestic and international networks, including full ownership of the RFP-to-pay lifecycle. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
  • 7–12+ years of experience in logistics, with a strong focus on rail and ocean transportation
  • Proven experience managing $50M–$150M in transportation spend
  • Deep understanding of intermodal networks, rail operations, ocean freight, and port logistics
  • Demonstrated success in carrier negotiations, RFP management, and contract execution
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities

  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP platforms, and freight audit tools
  • Knowledge of customs compliance and international trade regulations
  • MBA or advanced supply chain certifications (e.g., APICS, CSCMP)

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and continuously optimize multimodal logistics strategies leveraging rail and ocean freight solutions
  • Identify opportunities to shift modal mix to improve cost, transit time, and sustainability outcomes
  • Lead long-term network planning aligned with business growth projections and supply chain demands
  • Manage and oversee annual transportation spend of $50M–$150M, ensuring budget adherence and cost efficiency
  • Own the end-to-end RFP-to-pay lifecycle, ensuring alignment from strategic sourcing through invoice payment
  • Partner with Procurement and Finance to lead transportation RFPs, establishing competitive rate structures, clear accessorial definitions, and enforceable payment terms
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through carrier negotiations, routing optimization, and contract structuring
  • Develop and monitor KPIs, including cost per ton/mile, demurrage/detention, and total landed cost
  • Manage logistics-related accounts payable workflows, including discrepancy resolution, accrual accuracy, and working capital optimization
  • Identify and eliminate cost leakage through detailed analysis of billing data, accessorial charges, and carrier adherence to contracted terms
  • Drive automation across TMS, ERP, and freight audit systems to improve payment visibility and reduce manual touchpoints
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with rail carriers (Class I and regional) and ocean carriers/NVOCCs
  • Lead RFP processes, contract negotiations, and rate benchmarking across multimodal providers
  • Monitor carrier performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure seamless coordination of intermodal movements, including port drayage, rail ramp operations, and ocean bookings
  • Oversee shipment visibility, exception management, and contingency planning for disruptions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, warehousing, customer service, and finance teams
  • Manage regulatory compliance for international shipping, including customs, trade regulations, and documentation
  • Mitigate risks related to capacity constraints, port congestion, labor disruptions, and geopolitical factors
  • Develop contingency strategies to strengthen supply chain resilience
  • Leverage TMS, analytics tools, and dashboards to track performance and identify optimization opportunities
  • Provide executive-level reporting on logistics spend, service levels, and strategic initiatives
  • Utilize forecasting models to anticipate capacity needs, market trends, and cost fluctuations
