About The Position

The Locum Veterinarian provides temporary medical coverage to support the hospital’s veterinary team in delivering high-quality patient care. The role includes examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, developing treatment plans, performing medical procedures, and communicating with clients and team members while maintaining hospital standards of care. This position provides coverage based on hospital needs to maintain continuity of patient care, support hospital operations, and meet client service standards during staffing gaps or leave coverage. Scheduling is flexible and may include weekdays and occasional weekends.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
• Active veterinary license in the state of practice.
• DEA license in good standing, if applicable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to hospital workflows.
• Commitment to high-quality medicine and patient care.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and restrain animals safely.
• Ability to perform surgical and medical procedures.

Nice To Haves

• Previous small animal general practice experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical examinations and evaluate patient health.
• Diagnose illnesses and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and monitor patient progress.
• Perform routine surgeries and medical procedures as needed.
• Interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging results.
• Educate clients on treatment recommendations, preventive care, and follow-up.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
• Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and support staff.
• Follow hospital medical protocols and compliance standards.
• Provide compassionate care to patients and excellent service to clients.
