This contract, on-site position offers an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality surgical care and support within a dynamic healthcare environment. As a Locum PA in General Surgery, you will play a vital role in assisting surgeons during procedures, managing preoperative and postoperative patient care, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This locum tenens contract provides flexibility and the opportunity to gain valuable experience in our busy surgical practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) degree program.
  • Current and valid PA licensure in the state of Tennessee, or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Clinical experience in general surgery or a related surgical specialty suitable for an Associate-level role.
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for patient and team interactions.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, on-site clinical environment.
  • Ability to work a contract schedule as required by the practice.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient safety, quality care, and ethical practice.
  • Must be board-certified.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and obtain detailed medical histories.
  • Assist attending surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory work and imaging.
  • Perform surgical duties such as suturing, wound care, and minor bedside procedures.
  • Develop and manage patient care plans for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages.
  • Monitor patients' recovery and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff and surgical teams to ensure efficient and safe patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and aftercare.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, medical regulations, and quality standards.
