About The Position

Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital is seeking locum physicians to provide coverage for its Emergency Room while permanent placements are actively being recruited. The Emergency Room operates 24/7 year-round, offering vital emergency care to Western Cape Breton. The role currently involves 12-hour solo coverage shifts, compensated hourly. There is a possibility of adding double-coverage for peak hours. The hospital is keen to support physicians new to emergency medicine, offering opportunities to enhance skills and comfort in this vital area of rural healthcare.

Requirements

Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
Family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Responsibilities

Delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness.
Provide leadership in the stabilization of critically ill patients.
Appropriately assess and manage the full spectrum of emergency medicine presentations from injury to unexpected and undifferentiated medical and surgical illness in all ages, to mental health emergencies.
Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care.
Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members.
