About The Position

The Locomotive Field Service Intern will gain exposure to various aspects of locomotive service and maintenance. This assignment includes travel to Progress Rail manufacturing sites and customer locations within the U.S. Upon completion of this internship, the student will possess valuable skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Solid foundation of both mechanical and electrical systems is preferred.
• Analytical ability for complex problems.
• Demonstrated electrical and mechanical competence.
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Working background in safe work procedures and history of compliance.
• Travel as required; travel may be as long as a week at a time.
• Spanish is an asset, both written and spoken.

Nice To Haves

• Complete Level 1 training.
• Complete a full commissioning of 1 locomotive in Muncie, Indiana.
• Develop one systems training video on a new locomotive.
• Develop an Onsite training packet for a 1010J engine and its assembly.
• Trained and tested on building procedures.
• Learn how to track products in the field.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating work plans and systems documents for locomotives.
• Analyze data from the LTS database.
• Train under experienced technicians to understand locomotive functionality.
• Work safely on customer property, adhering to all safety rules.
• Train and test on locomotive build procedures.
• Create training documents and videos of systems.
• Communicate information in a timely manner.
• Effectively train and work on mechanical & electrical systems of a locomotive.
• Maintain records of work performed.
• Research and coordinate special tool and material requirements.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures related to a designated facility.
• Ensure good safety practices and housekeeping.
• Work with minimal supervision, with supervisor available for questions.
• Travel to different Progress Rail Manufacturing facilities to understand the manufacturing process.
• Create videos demonstrating how a locomotive system works.
• Assist in the development of an Engine overhaul document.
