About The Position

This is a full-time Locksmith position within Facilities Management. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of lockable hardware, including doors, automatic electric doors, windows, locks, and magnetic keying systems to ensure facility safety. Responsibilities also include repairing or replacing damaged components of entrance and exit doors, installing and repairing electric strikes and electronic security hardware, and responding to routine and emergency repair calls. The position may also involve carpentry work and responding to work order assignments as needed by the University, which could include overtime and call-ins.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and live within 30 minutes of the University and available to work on nights and weekends when needed
  • Demonstrated work history reflecting reliability and dependability
  • Possess, or willing to complete locksmith training to obtain a Certified Facility Locksmith certificate from the National Locksmithing Institute, or equivalent certification, within one year of the date of hire
  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures of the methods, materials and tools used in the locksmith trade
  • Knowledge of all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware
  • Knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices
  • Knowledge of techniques for keying, repairing, installing and servicing locks and related hardware
  • Knowledge in various carpentry skills to conduct general installations, repairs, and replacements of building components
  • Ability to work from plans and specifications
  • Ability to perform physical activities and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain commercial lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric doors, windows, locks and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities
  • Install and repair conventional security hardware and locksets
  • Repair or replace damaged components of entrance and exit doors
  • Install and repair electric strikes and electronic security hardware
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
  • Repair and service “panic hardware” on doors
  • Perform carpentry work as assigned by the Lead or Supervisor of the Service Crew
  • Respond to all work order assignments for the Service Crew as made necessary by University needs, which may include rescheduling, overtime and/or call-ins
