About The Position

The Journeyman Locksmith performs skilled locksmith work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, adjustment, and replacement of locks, locking devices, cylinders, keys, master key systems, and related door hardware in support of Government facilities. The position is a dedicated full-time, on-site role whose primary responsibility is to perform locksmith services during the Government's regular working hours, with work assigned through service orders and/or task orders.

Requirements

  • Must be a dedicated full-time Journeyman Locksmith whose primary responsibility is the performance of locksmith services on-site during the Government's regular working hours.
  • Must have completed an accredited master key system/locksmith course through the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) or an equivalent locksmith training program.
  • Must possess demonstrated experience performing skilled locksmith work, including installation, maintenance, repair, adjustment, and rekeying of locks and related hardware and support of master key systems.
  • Must be capable of performing locksmith services independently in response to service orders and/or task orders.
  • Must maintain accurate records associated with keys, lock changes, cylinders, cores, and master key systems.
  • Must be the subject of a trustworthiness determination in accordance with SECNAVINST 5510.36A, Chapter 10-15, and comply with all applicable Department of the Navy security requirements.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
  • Pass a background check prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, removes, repairs, replaces, and adjusts a variety of locks, locksets, cylinders, cores, padlocks, deadbolts, door latches, and related hardware used in Government facilities.
  • Rekeys locks; repins or replaces cylinders and cores; cuts, duplicates, and issues keys; and changes lock combinations as required for facility security and access control.
  • Sets up, modifies, maintains, and supports master key systems and related keying records in accordance with facility requirements.
  • Opens locks when access is required for maintenance, repair, rekeying, or restoration of service using standard locksmith methods and tools.
  • Inspects locks, keys, doors, and associated hardware to identify damage, wear, misalignment, or malfunction and performs corrective work needed to restore proper operation.
  • Fits and installs locking devices and related hardware on doors, gates, cabinets, containers, and similar structures as required by the Government.
  • Maintains accountability and control of keys, cylinders, cores, and related locksmith materials and maintains logs, records, and documentation associated with locksmith operations.
  • Responds to routine, preventive, corrective, urgent, and emergency locksmith service requirements issued by service order and/or task order.
  • Coordinates locksmith work with facility representatives and other authorized personnel as necessary to support operational and security requirements.
  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with applicable safety, access, and security procedures.
