About The Position

Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility is searching for a Locksmith. The duties for the Locksmith include but are not limited to the following duties: Works under general supervision of Facility Administrator to install, repair, and replace locks and locking devices at Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility; installs, repairs and replaces cylinder and key locks, door closers, and/or related locking hardware/devices; lubricates and adjusts locks and locking devices (e.g., changes combinations on safes, replaces tumblers and/or pad-locks, repairs electronic locking devices, installs deadbolts, makes master locks and keys); makes new keys using various machinery (e.g., key duplicator, key cutter, grinder) for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets and/or safes; performs preventative maintenance on locks and doors (e.g., inspects locks for wear and malfunction, changes locking devices for security purposes); operates personal computer to prepare and maintain work related records, documentation and/or reports (e.g., keeps records of all door locks within facility, maintains identification of keys, keeps records of keys issued, maintains inventory of parts, material and equipment needed and issued and prepares requisitions); makes chits (i.e., identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles and other devices as needed. Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repairs; performs carpentry repairs (e.g., doors, locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, stairways); repairs equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, electrical components of heating and cooling systems); repairs plumbing equipment (e.g., water and steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulations, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks); performs custodial duties (e.g., mops, sweeps, waxes floors, washes walls and windows); performs grounds keeping duties; removes snow and ice from sidewalks; inspects buildings and equipment for repairs or replacements and performs systematic and routine preventative maintenance of assigned area; operates machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.

Requirements

  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in locksmithing.
  • 3 months of training or 3 months of experience in inventory control.
  • Operates personal computer to prepare and maintain work related records, documentation and/or reports.
  • Operates machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and replace locks and locking devices.
  • Install, repair, and replace cylinder and key locks, door closers, and related locking hardware/devices.
  • Lubricate and adjust locks and locking devices, including changing combinations on safes, replacing tumblers and padlocks, repairing electronic locking devices, installing deadbolts, and making master locks and keys.
  • Make new keys using various machinery for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets, and safes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on locks and doors, including inspecting locks for wear and malfunction and changing locking devices for security purposes.
  • Operate a personal computer to prepare and maintain work-related records, documentation, and reports, such as keeping records of all door locks, maintaining key identification, recording keys issued, maintaining inventory of parts and equipment, and preparing requisitions.
  • Make chits (identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles, and other devices.
