About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is seeking a Locksmith to join their team. Requirements

  • 12 months training or 12 months experience in locksmithing.
  • 3 months training or 3 months experience in inventory control.
  • Or equivalent Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

  • Must submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and replace cylinder and key locks and door closers, panic bars and/or related locking hardware/devices.
  • Lubricates and adjusts locks and locking devices (e.g., changes combinations on safes, replaces tumblers and/or padlocks).
  • Repairs electronic locking devices.
  • Installs deadbolts, makes master locks and keys.
  • Makes new keys using various machinery (e.g., key duplicator, key cutter, grinder) for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets and carts, fire alarm boxes and other items.
  • Maintains and repairs parts fabrication of locks in cell blocks, doors, cabinets and/or safes.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on locks and doors (e.g., inspects locks for wear and malfunction, changes locking devices for security purposes, lubricates, aligns).
  • Operates personal computer to prepare and maintain work related records, documentation and/or reports.
  • Keeps records of all door locks within facility.
  • Maintains identification of keys and keeps records of keys issued.
  • Maintains inventory of parts, material and equipment needed and issued and prepares requisitions.
  • Prepares periodic reports and responds to information requests.
  • Repairs doors, frames and/or hinges if needed for lock repair.
  • Makes chits (i.e., identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles and other devices as needed.
  • Maintains, programs and enters information in electronic key system (i.e., Morse Watchman).
  • Serves on institutional committees.
  • Attends training, seminars and/or meetings as required.
  • Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
