About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Locksmith to join their team. Requirements

• 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in locksmithing.
• 3 months of training or 3 months of experience in inventory control.
• Equivalent to the minimum class qualifications for employment.
• Ability to clearly describe how you meet the minimum qualifications on the online application.
• Must be able to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use (including marijuana) prior to appointment.
• Must undergo a criminal background check.
• Must not be prohibited from hiring due to specific criminal convictions or sexual abuse history as outlined by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

• Experience with key duplicator, key cutter, grinder.
• Experience with electronic key systems (e.g., Morse Watchman).
• Experience with safes and combination changes.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and replace cylinder and key locks, door closers, panic bars, and related locking hardware/devices.
• Lubricate and adjust locks and locking devices, including changing combinations on safes and replacing tumblers or padlocks.
• Repair electronic locking devices.
• Install deadbolts and make master locks and keys.
• Create new keys using various machinery for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets and carts, fire alarm boxes, and other items.
• Maintain and repair parts fabrication of locks in cell blocks, doors, cabinets, and safes.
• Perform preventive maintenance on locks and doors, including inspecting for wear and malfunction, changing locking devices for security, and lubricating and aligning.
• Operate a personal computer to prepare and maintain work-related records, documentation, and reports.
• Keep records of all door locks within the facility.
• Maintain identification of keys and keep records of keys issued.
• Maintain inventory of parts, materials, and equipment needed and issued, and prepare requisitions.
• Prepare periodic reports and respond to information requests.
• Repair doors, frames, and hinges if needed for lock repair.
• Make chits (identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles, and other devices.
• Maintain, program, and enter information in the electronic key system (e.g., Morse Watchman).
• Serve on institutional committees.
• Attend training, seminars, and/or meetings as required.
• Perform security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
