About The Position

The Department of Facilities Management & Planning supports the mission of the University of Denver’s physical resources in order to provide a healthy and safe educational environment for the campus community through services of the departments of Capital Projects and Planning, Facilities Management, Parking & Mobility Services, Auxiliaries & Real Estate, and Business & Operations. Position Summary With little or no supervision, performs installation, repair, and maintenance work on all lock hardware. Installs, repairs, and maintains locks, latch sets, closures, and padlocks on all University buildings and equipment. The support requirements for the C-Cure access control system and systems are limited to the hardware component but may involve utilizing relevant software for hardware maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read work orders, written instructions, installation instructions and manuals, building plans and specifications, and key schedules.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with a wide variety of people at all levels within the University.
  • Must be able to prepare estimates and bids.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as weights and measures.
  • Ability to solve problems with a variety of variables.
  • Daily priorities are established and frequently monitored by Supervisor.
  • The employee responds to situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Experienced skills and competency in the locksmith field and functions.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, codes, and regulations of the locksmith trade.
  • Must comprehend and follow safety instructions and concepts.
  • Must be able to be unassisted in a safe and workmanlike manner.
  • Must be computer literate and be able to close and open work orders in the work order software program.
  • Working familiarity with CCURE 9000 access control hardware and basic software navigation.
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Five years of experience in the DU Lock Shop.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Drivers License and be insurable under University guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience working as a locksmith.
  • Working familiarity with CCURE 9000 access control hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Cuts all types of keys, stamps keys according to codes, and keeps records via computer and files.
  • Repairs and/or installs all types of door hardware on campus, including door closures, ADA openers, keypads, locksets, and strike plates.
  • Installs new locks and re-pins locks as needed.
  • Program key padlocks.
  • Open locks when keys are lost.
  • Estimates and bids work.
  • Sets up key schedules for buildings in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Working with supervisors can order material from vendors.
  • Knows how to read blueprints and plans.
  • Knows the functions of various locksets and the appropriate uses in buildings.
  • Has the ability to key a building according to the key schedule.
  • Guides, trains, and assists employees in lower pay grades with less knowledge and skill in performing the above-assigned duties.
  • Understands building codes as they relate to appropriate hardware for existing buildings.
  • Drive to the site with tools and equipment.
  • Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains CCURE access control hardware, including but not limited to, card readers, access control and power supply panels and periphery boards, sirens, door contacts, REX devices, and applicable wiring.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on CCURE-controlled doors, strikes, and electrified hardware.
  • Assists with installation, replacement, or commissioning of CCURE access control components.
  • Responds to CCURE-related service requests and system alerts in coordination with Campus Safety.
  • Direct vendors pertaining to access maintenance or installations.
  • Performs other temporary duties within the position’s general scope, as assigned
