About The Position

This position is with the Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, Operations Division, Brazos River Floodgates Project Office, located in Freeport, TX. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This is a supervisory position. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is mandatory drug testing position and meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE Pamphlet 600-1-3.
  • Incumbent may be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
  • Incumbent may also be required to have a valid state drivers license based on job-related, site- specific requirements.
  • Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures.
  • Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
  • Employee may be required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.

  • Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Operator Supervisor~ without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to lead or supervise routine maintenance work required for the upkeep of lock and dam site buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.
  • May require a one (1) year supervisory probation period.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools.
  • Track and report progress of work assignments.
  • Assign work to individual employees involved in the performance of lock and dam operations.
  • Advise and counsel workers on complaints.
  • Coordinate work with the Lock master, to maintain work progress and meet schedules.
  • Set performance standards, for subordinate employees.
