About The Position

KCCI, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a versatile, enterprising reporter to create story ideas, conduct informed interviews, develop sources, build compelling live shots, and report across broadcast, digital, social, streaming, and mobile platforms. The reporter is expected to work independently, take initiative in the field, ask tough questions, and produce accurate, timely, engaging coverage, including enterprise stories and major breaking news. The position reports to the News Director and requires in-person attendance.

Requirements

Professional or college reporting experience.
Experience with enterprise reporting and the ability to uncover details.
A demo reel indicative of everyday work.
Ability to write clear, correct, compelling copy that supports gathered images.
Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use current technology.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Valid driver's license and clear driving record.
Ability to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends.
Ability to handle the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production.
In-person attendance is required.

Responsibilities

Plan, gather, and assemble stories for day-of news and special project assignments.
Gather and edit compelling video and sound, with or without a photographer.
Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories with distinctive enterprise angles and exclusive content.
Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and opportunities to break significant stories.
Contribute pictures, video, and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day.
Work on multiple stories and projects at once and meet deadlines under extraordinary pressure.
Demonstrate unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
