About The Position

The local company driver is responsible for picking up and delivering freight tendered to RJW by its customers, divisions and freight brokers; and complying with company and FMCSA safety standards covering equipment conditions and driver performance. Drivers will be primarily dispatched within 70 miles of base but can be sent on out of state loads up to a 250 mile radius.

Requirements

  • Current Commercial Drivers License, Type / Classification A.
  • 1 year experience in local deliveries.
  • Current Medical Card.
  • GED or H.S. Diploma.
  • Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to determine “root cause” of problem and determine corrective action.
  • Knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.
  • Pass DOT physical.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of a tractor.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of the back of a 48 foot and 53 foot trailer.
  • Must be able to turn the handle on a dolly in a clockwise and counter clockwise directions up to 66lbs. of vertical torque.
  • Must be able to couple and uncouple units. (Push and pull motion)
  • Must use 3 points of contact when entering or leaving tractor, trailer or spotter.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, lift, push and pull on level and unleveled surfaces.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and also lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle and knuckle to shoulder.
  • Must be able to activate Bluetooth hands free phone system.
  • Must have clear communication with vendor.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle for substantial lengths of time.
  • Frequently required to talk, hear, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
  • Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media with 20/20 corrected vision.
  • Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of the use of controlled substances.

Responsibilities

  • Picks up assigned freight on time.
  • Delivers assigned freight on time.
  • Documents the pick up and delivery of assigned freight accurately and in accordance with RJW policy.
  • Reports and /or check in with the RJW assigned Dispatcher, Fleet Manager and / or Supervisor, as required.
  • Reports all customer complaints and / or problems immediately to the ‘Assigned Supervisor’.
  • Reports all equipment damage and / or accidents immediately to ‘Assigned Supervisor’ and Safety Director.
  • Report all damage to freight and / or potential claims to the ‘Assigned Supervisor’.
  • Report all traffic and / or accident citations to the ‘Assigned Supervisor’ and Safety Director.
  • Report all DOT out of service citations to the ‘Assigned Supervisor’ and Safety Director.
  • Accurately fills out and turn in all required reports.
  • Attends all required safety and / or driver meetings.
  • Conducts ‘pre-trip’ and ‘post trip’ inspections on all trailers assigned to the trip and / or load.
  • Maintains a current and updated drivers manual.
  • Deliver assigned truck(s) and / or trailer(s) for planned maintenance, when scheduled.
  • Reports potential mechanical problems on assigned trucks and trailers to the ‘Assigned Supervisor’.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance when picking up and delivering customer freight.
  • Keeps the assigned truck clean and net.
  • Other tasks as assigned by manager.
