About The Position

Big C Lumber in Elkhart, IN is seeking a Delivery Truck Driver/Yard Person. This is a full time, day shift position with benefits. Chauffeur/For-Hire License is required, or the ability to obtain For-Hire license. The primary responsibility is to ensure customer satisfaction while never compromising safety. This role involves assisting customers, preparing materials for shipment, loading and delivering materials, performing daily vehicle inspections, maintaining paperwork, handling COD's, checking loads for accuracy, and maintaining a safe driving record. Additionally, the position requires assisting with yard cleanliness, unloading vehicles, placing materials in proper yard locations, assisting other employees, performing forklift inspections, arranging material on trucks, and proper inventory storage. Clear communication with employees, management, customers, and suppliers is essential. The role also includes performing special assignments as required by the Operations Manager and adhering to all safety, fire, and anti-theft procedures. Promoting a positive image of Big C Lumber is also a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

Minimum Chauffeur/For-Hire License with the ability to train to obtain a For-Hire license
Ability to build and arrange loads properly
Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 80lbs
Post offer drug test, lift test, and DOT physical required
Map reading and/or GPS skills
Ability to become Forklift Certified
Attention to detail
Ability to withstand and drive in harsh weather conditions
Ability to lift, carry, and move 80# to specified areas, in rough terrain, up/down steps

Responsibilities

Provide assistance to customers
Receive and prepare material for shipment
Load, secure, and deliver material
Daily inspections of delivery vehicles per DOT requirements
Report all returns to the office
Maintain all required paperwork
Handling COD’s
Check loads for accuracy
Maintain safe driving record as defined by the company’s insurance carrier
Assist with ensuring yard is kept clean always
Unload vehicles and check for material accuracy
Place material in proper yard location
Assist other employees as needed
Put returns away
Check vehicles for any problems; including daily forklift inspections
Proper arrangement of material on trucks
Proper storage of inventory
Communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with employees, management, customers, and suppliers
Perform any special assignment/projects as required by the Operations Manager
Adherence to all safety and fire regulations and anti-theft procedures
Promote a positive image of BIG C
