About The Position

Waste Connections is hiring a Local CDL Route Driver in Erie, Colorado, to safely operate a garbage truck on assigned routes and collect solid waste. The role pays $26–$30 per hour and typically involves working 50–55 hours per week, with overtime pay for hours worked after 40. The position is eligible for safety bonuses. Waste experience is preferred but not required. The driver follows route sheets and dispatcher instructions, completes routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks, operates hydraulic hand controls to load refuse, and disposes of trash at designated facilities. The work is physically demanding and takes place outdoors in varied weather, with potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, vibration, and moderate noise.

Requirements

Valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement, at minimum.
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English.
Basic knowledge of truck components to complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
Ability to work Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays, for approximately 50–55 hours per week.
Must be at least 21 years old to operate a commercial vehicle.
Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Safely operate a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste.
Read route sheets and service each listed customer or customers assigned by the dispatcher.
Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
Load and unload refuse, sometimes without helpers, and perform other physically demanding work.
Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.
Interact courteously with customers.
Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
