General Summary: The Loan Advisor originates consumer loans (Auto, Personal, and Credit card) and home equity lending products (Advantage Mortgage, Home Equity Fixed, and HELOC) in accordance with all credit union policies and procedures. This person typically connects with members over the phone or through online channels (email, chat, etc.) to review the Credit Union’s loan program options, loan products and terms, and assisting members in selecting the program aligned with their financial goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience originating or processing consumer loans or residential mortgage loans.
  • Familiarity with loan products and loan processing workflows. Ability to quickly learn the Credit Union’s portfolio loan products.
  • Must be able to successfully complete registration process with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry and to also annually renew and maintain registration throughout employment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record with reliable transportation.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Must be self-motivated and goal driven.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of mortgage/consumer lending LOS systems a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively originate new consumer loan (auto, personal, credit cards) and home equity applications (Adv Mortgage, Fixed Home Equity, HELOC) through targeted outreach campaigns.
  • Meet and exceed assigned individual and team production goals. Contribute to the Credit Union’s overall revenue growth and member satisfaction.
  • Deliver an exceptional member experience through the timely and accurate processing of consumer loan applications, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Follow up with borrowers on approved loans, providing regular updates to ensure a seamless loan experience.
  • Analyze credit reports to identify potential savings opportunities for members, offering solutions that can enhance their financial well-being.
  • Handle challenging member interactions with empathy and professionalism, delivering difficult news when necessary while suggesting alternative solutions.
  • Communicate loan approvals and denials with professionalism, ensuring a supportive and understanding experience for the member.
  • Actively promote the sale of ancillary insurance products, such as payment protection plans, to complement loan products and protect our members.
  • Utilize consultative selling techniques to offer tailored financial solutions to members, supporting the credit union’s mission of financial freedom.
  • Communicates credit terms (interest rate, loan terms/repayment method, disclosures, costs, etc.) and all loan status to members from application through closing. Ensures that all terms are within credit union policy and in compliance with RESPA, ECOA, and TILA.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors.
  • Keeps abreast of industry developments including but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
