Load In/Out/Carpenter Crew Associate

Starting Arts•San Jose, CA
•$20 - $22

About The Position

Starting Arts runs about 45 shows a year. Approximately 75% are “Cafeteria” shows in elementary- and middle-school cafeterias, with simplified set and technical elements, and 25% are “In-House” productions performed in professional theater venues with more intensive set and technical design. As a youth theatre company, Starting Arts mostly loads in and out of schools, where the crew may interact with children. The Load In/Load Out/Carpenter Crew member moves technical equipment, sets, costumes, and props into and out of venues and constructs sets when required. The position works closely with the Production Manager and Technical Director. Productions take place in a variety of venues across the South Bay, from Los Altos to Almaden/South San Jose. Storage and the truck are located near the San Jose Fairgrounds. The role requires availability on Monday mornings for typical load-ins and Friday nights for typical load-outs, as well as some weekends, holidays, or other production-related load-in/load-out times. Work may take place in dimly lit and noisy environments, at heights, and in small or confined spaces. The role may involve standing for long periods, sitting, crouching, kneeling, and crawling.
