About The Position

As a General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, you will perform essential production tasks to process meat products and support coworkers. The role contributes to safe, high-quality food production and requires reliability, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn. Production employees work with hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment. The work is physically demanding and may involve repetitive movements, prolonged standing, and exposure to varied temperatures, wet and humid conditions, noise, strong odors, animal blood or carcass parts, and sanitation chemicals. Team members must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime based on production demands. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Able to stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Able to work with a knife if trained.
• Able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
• Able to work in wet and humid conditions, noisy environments, and around strong odors and sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
• Able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes, and use personal protective equipment.
• Able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
• May need certification to operate equipment required for the position.
• Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifting of objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
