About The Position

Responsible for providing the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA curriculum as it is intended by the YMCA of the USA (YUSA) under the direct supervision of the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA Coordinator. Successful completion of the rigorous YMCA of the USA LiveSTRONG at the YMCA Certified Instructor training and pre-requisites is required for continued employment. This role involves being a relationship builder with understanding, empathy, and the ability to connect with and develop relationships with and among cancer survivors. The instructor will conduct one-on-one intake assessments, deliver curriculum, and work with participants to address their whole well-being (spirit, mind, body). They will perform and collect data for functional assessments, create individualized exercise programs, and teach equipment utilization, exercise technique, and safety. The instructor will determine exercise parameters, make minor adjustments as needed, and collect/report program data. Availability for bi-annual in-service learning meetings is also required.

Requirements

  • Active and Maintained approved Group Fitness or Personal Training certification as designated by YMCA of the USA
  • Maintain a current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/AED/CPR Certification
  • Successfully complete and Maintain LiveSTRONG at the YMCA certification
  • Maintain an active HIPPA: Privacy and Security Training/Certification
  • High School diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Strong interest in healthy living.
  • Must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Means and ability to travel to YMCA of Upper Palmetto branches

Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-one intake assessments with participants prior to starting 12 week class
  • Deliver curriculum to program participants in its’ intended manner, as instructed by the Program Coordinator/YUSA
  • Work with participants to address the whole person’s well-being, including spirit, mind and body.
  • Properly perform and collect data for the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA functional assessments for each participant.
  • Create individualized exercise program from assessment results and from using Listen First skills with participant.
  • Teach and demonstrate utilization of equipment, correct exercise technique and safety considerations, and how to fill out the exercise log sheet.
  • Determine starting reps, sets, weight, duration, and determine if any modifications/adaptations may be needed to the exercise or equipment.
  • Be able to make minor adjustments to exercise programs as needed in response to member adaptations/tolerance to activity per session.
  • Collect and report all program data requested from Program Coordinator in a timely manner such as: participant attendance, Promis-29, functional assessment, program evaluation, and other requested forms
  • Be available to meet bi-annually with LiveSTRONG at the YMCA instructors for in-service learning.
