About The Position

The Downtown YMCA is hiring a Livestrong Instructor for a part-time position. This role involves supporting cancer survivors through safe, motivating, and empowering exercise programs. The instructor will lead small-group sessions, create personalized exercise plans, and build a supportive community, ensuring participants feel encouraged while upholding the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Requirements

• Minimum Age: 18
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• YMCA Group Exercise or Strength & Conditioning Certification or nationally recognized equivalent (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, etc.) required before first shift
• Basic Life Support, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen certifications required before first shift
• LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Training required before first shift

Nice To Haves

• Exercise science coursework preferred
• Experience working with cancer survivors or special populations preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead small-group exercise sessions designed for cancer survivors
• Assess participants and create individualized exercise programs
• Teach safe equipment use and proper exercise techniques
• Encourage and support participants while tracking progress
• Maintain program records and communicate participant needs with leadership
