About The Position
Bargain Lane is launching a new Whatnot channel called Bargain Lane Live. This is a dedicated, full-time role anchoring the weekday operation, hosting live shows Monday through Thursday. The ideal candidate will be able to move product, command a room, and create urgency for viewers to bid. This role is focused on live selling, similar to QVC or an auctioneer, with a fast pace and a focus on results. The host will work alongside a show assistant who handles inventory flow behind the scenes. The job involves staying on camera for the full show (5 hours, 350+ items), describing items quickly, opening bids, engaging with the chat, celebrating wins, and maintaining high energy throughout the show. This role is based at the Fort Wayne warehouse and requires a consistent presence Monday through Thursday.
Requirements
- Ability to talk and hold a room on camera for extended periods without fading.
- Ability to perform under pressure and maintain energy.
- Strong closing skills; ability to sell items, not just describe them.
- Ability to read a crowd and pivot quickly based on audience engagement.
- Retail or customer-facing background (e.g., cashier, server, sales floor, barista).
- Ability to take feedback and improve.
- Must be able to work Monday - Thursday, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Live Show window), plus prep and packing time.
Nice To Haves
- Prior Whatnot experience is not required.
- Caution is exercised when hiring individuals who already run their own resale channels.
Responsibilities
- Host live Whatnot shows for 5 hours, Monday through Thursday.
- Describe items rapidly and open bids.
- Engage with the live chat by addressing viewers by name.
- Celebrate viewer wins and maintain high energy throughout the show.
- Work with a show assistant who handles inventory flow.
- Perform under pressure, managing slow bids, dead chat, and awkward silences.
- Read and adapt to the live audience's preferences quickly.
- Participate in post-show debriefs and accept feedback for improvement.
Benefits
- Base Pay: $16 - $19/hr
- Uncapped Performance Bonuses (Show Bonus tiers based on Gross Merchandise Volume - GMV)
- Full-time role from day one
- Paid for the full 8.5-hour shift (1.5 hr inventory prep + 5 hr live show + 2 hr post-show packing/shipping)
