About The Position

The Live Haul Supervisor is responsible for determining work allocations, employing people to meet staffing requirements, and making decisions regarding the transport of chickens to the processing plant. This role involves managing personnel, coordinating with farms, truck shops, and plant personnel, and ensuring the safe, proper, and efficient delivery of chickens. The supervisor must also establish and enforce safety, production, and animal welfare standards, provide training, and maintain proper record-keeping.

Requirements

  • 5 years of supervisory training.
  • Knowledge of poultry transportation.
  • Excellent personal communication skills; written and verbal.
  • Good basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions while under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and pleasant work environment for everyone in the department: including drivers, catchers, and other employees.
  • Must be able to work night shift(s) with variable starting and ending times.
  • Must have a good DMV Record.
  • Must be able and willing to enforce all company policies.
  • Must understand DOT rules for Class A Drivers.

  • Ability to climb a ladder to a height of 25 ft.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop and squat repetitively.
  • Work around raw, live animal odors.
  • Work in a noisy environment (>85 decibels) and around moving equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Determining work allocations.
  • Employing people to meet staffing requirements.
  • Making decisions to get chickens to the processing plant.
  • Working with farms, farm managers, truck shop, and plant personnel.
  • Contacting growers, drivers, and catch crews as needed.
  • Directing the pickup and transporting of chickens to the processing plant.
  • Meeting with catch crew leaders at the beginning of the work shift and assigning duties.
  • Ensuring safe, proper, and efficient delivery of chickens to the processing plant from the farm.
  • Making decisions on how many birds to transport.
  • Checking with crews on farms and assuring all crews are working to live haul standards at the highest quality standards.
  • Solving problems and addressing issues as necessary.
  • Coordinating with crew leaders and the processing plant.
  • Hiring and terminating employees.
  • Establishing and enforcing company and department safety, production, and animal welfare standards.
  • Providing necessary training for catch crew foreperson.
  • Working with other departments as needed for overall division planning and proper record keeping.
  • Documenting all disciplinary actions.
  • Attending meetings and miscellaneous training sessions.
  • Communicating with the Live Haul Manager.
