About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a CDL A Driver for their Live Haul team. This role involves safely transporting livestock while adhering to all DOT regulations and company policies. A CDL training program is available for drivers with a CDL class A and at least one year of commercial driving experience.

Requirements

Current Class A CDL.
Previous driving experience required.
At least 21 years old.
Acceptable driving record.
Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, and holidays).
High school diploma or GED, preferred.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Successfully complete a driver training program.
Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, or loading and unloading, with animal welfare as the primary concern.
Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
Report all accidents promptly through proper authorities.
Comply with all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
Hook up trailer to tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
Operate landing gear, which can require significant physical effort.
Operate a manual transmission tractor.
Perform through pre-trip inspections of equipment, which may involve climbing into the engine area, bending, stooping, and crawling.
Open and close trailer gates and doors to load and unload animals.
Enter and exit the cab in confined spaces.
Maneuver the vehicle, potentially leaning out of the window for visibility.
Report problems encountered on the farm or designated plant using the swine movement ticket or farm condition report.
Understand and follow the Smithfield emergency notification process.
